A full-scale opera production of Gioachino Rossini's 2-act opera buffa Il Barbiere di Siviglia, will be presented in the spring by the Gaulitanus Choir, at the Aurora Opera House, Victoria, Gozo.
In what was once considered as an off-season for opera, the Gaulitanus Choir said that it will be bringing another full-scale production of one of the most loved comic operas ever, The Barber of Seville, to crown the 10th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music (2016).
For the first time ever, the 4-week spanning festival of music will include an OPERA+ weekend, of which Il Barbiere will be the highlight.
The opera production will be on Saturday, the 23rd of April and will feature an international cast supported by an enlarged Gaulitanus Choir and accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Gaulitanus' musical director and Gaulitana's artistic director Colin Attard.
Il Barbiere di Siviglia opera will be part of the Festival's OPERA+ weekend, 22-24 April – a jam-packed weekend that includes a solo piano recital by Michael Laus on Friday, a lunchtime Wine & Music event by the Gaudos Violin Duo on Saturday at Vini e Capricci, a pre-opera talk at the Aurora Theatre, a lunchtime concert by the Tortorelli-Meluso Duo on Sunday and Miriam Cauchi in an evening concert accompanied by a string quartet.
The Gaulitanus Choir said that in itself, OPERA+ Weekend rounds up a more extensive Gaulitana festival (10th ed.) which spans from Easter Sunday, 27th March, until 24th April 2016 featuring a multifarious programme of events in various genres, styles and locations.
