"By March all Local Councils will be live streaming Local Council meetings on the internet, ensuring Councils are in constant touch with resident and.to enhance transparency and accountability in the operation of Local Government."

This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Stefan Buontempo, during a press conference which followed the Sannat Local Council meeting via live streaming.

He announced that 93% of Gozitan and Maltese Local Councils are broadcast their meetings live via the internet, and by the end of March, all councils are going to be streaming their meetings.

Parliamentary Secretary Buontempo added that it was a measure that Councils have committed themselves to believe in

"Now it was felt that the willingness of Councils to broadcast their meetings should be sealed by law, which will enter into force next month left." He added that the next step is to extend this measure to the regional committee meetings also.

The Parliamentary Secretary said, "this Government feels that this measure enhances popular participation and democracy in the Local Government system."
