LGBTI + Gozo has given its reaction to this morning's statement by the Church of Malta regarding the Position Paper on the Bill on Conversion Therapy.

The NGO said that it would like to ask the Church "to take some things into consideration before publishing such comments."

"We don't think that anyone who is heterosexual would like to become a homosexual and even if this was so, this can't happen as a sexual orientation is something from within and not some sort of conditioning. Also, unlike the church the LGBTI community doesn't have any type of conversion on its agenda," it said.

The NGO said that "paedophiles with a same sex behaviour tendency isn't the same as homosexuality. Studies show that paedophiles go for both sexes because of the tender age. Homosexuals are NOT paedophiles."

LGBTI + Gozo pointed out that, "if a bisexual person is involved in a relationship it doesn't mean they will go sleep around with as much women as men. It's totally ludicrous that in 2016 we still think that bisexuals are promiscuous just because they are attracted to both genders."

"Just because a homosexual wants to live a chaste life doesn't mean he will stop being a homosexual or have homosexual tendencies, just like getting into priesthood won't stop you for having any sexual urges," concluded the NGO.
