Mr Joseph Tabone, Officer in Scale 5 at the Office of the Gozo College Principal, recently represented Gozo at a `Diversity in Education,' course held in Lisbon, Portugal.

The organisers of the course said that, "our society is evolving fast towards great(er) diversity. Hence the schools – as a reflection of that society – evolve at the same speed and in the same direction. We meet more frequently with (grand)parents from less obvious family backgrounds or multicultural families."

"Gender issues influence strongly modern society and school life. More often we encounter students with different ethnical-cultural, linguistic or religious backgrounds, students and teachers with a disability, families with less fortunate financial means or who have no access to good schooling due to economic status … ."

During this course the participants hailing from various countries (Hungary, France, Belgium, Cyprus and Greece) gained insight and awareness in different aspects of diversity in Education; got a clear view of the actual level of diversity management in their schools; acquired a number of skills and competences in setting up a diversity management methods and learned about strategies to tackle/handle, implement and sustain a fair diversity policy.

The course was funded by EUPA under the Erasmus+ programme.
