The Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo and Mr Victor Galea, Principal of the Gozo College, along with Mr Francis Stivala, the Secretary General for the organising body the National Student Travel Foundation (NSTF), participated in the 3rd edition of the NSTF Science Days in Gozo Awards Night 2016.

The event was held on Thursday evening at the Gozo College, closing a successful three-day Exhibition targeted towards students.

Along with NSTF Secretary-General Mr Francis Stivala, Dr Refalo presented the awards to the winning students from 13 schools participating in the NSTF Science Art Contest, 4 in School Lab, 6 teams in the NSTF School Contest for Young Scientists, 63 teams for the NSTF Primary School Contest for Young Scientists, and 128 entries for the NSTF Science Photo Contest.The NSTF Science Days in Gozo, now in its 3rd edition, officially opened on Tuesday, 1st March, in a ceremony inaugurated by Mr. Lawrence Sciberras, the Education Officer of the Gozo College encouraged students to "see, learn and appreciate" what they see around them during the NSTF Science Days and he also took the opportunity to thank the teachers who supported their students in the Science Days.

During the opening, Mr. Stivala welcomed everyone and mentioned how the Science Days was a great learning experience and a great opportunity for students from Gozo. He thanked the sponsors, supporters, teachers and students themselves who are the main stars of the show.

Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo thanked NSTF for such an opportunity. Minister Refalo said that NSTF Science Days in Gozo aim to expose the potential of Gozitan students through such programmes and increase the number of young people who embark on a career in the world of science.The NSTF Science Days in Gozo was first launched in 2014 at the Ministry for Gozo in order to exhibit the talent of Gozitan Students and encourage them to take up a career within a scientific field through a number of NSTF Science programmes surrounding artwork and photography with a scientific theme, as well as scientific research and experiments.

The annual event allows the students to showcase their work as well as includes interactive sessions by the science communicators and exhibitors: CELL EXPLORERS, Shark Lab, Catherine Meyer, David Fenech, STC, E-learning & the MCAST Institutes.

Mr Stivali thanked all the sponsors, supporters, collaborators, namely: Ministry for Gozo, Ministry for Education, Gozo College Mr Galea and all staff, Head Victoria Boys Secondary School Dr Abela, Peripatetic teachers, all Heads and teachers, European Commission, the Model Shop, British Council, HSBC, the Malta National Aquarium, Hotel Calypso, Downtown Hotel, Maldonado Restaurant, Victoria, McDonalds, Studio Seven.
