A conference with the theme – Voluntary Work and Social Services for the benefit of single parents – is being organised by Dar Guzeppa Debono, in collaboration with the Anawim Group and the Noble Military and Hospitalier Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem.

The aim of the conference is to explore the reality of single parenthood, which is currently a very relevant issue for our society.

Dar Guzeppa Debono, with thirty years of experience in supporting single mothers and their families in various stages of their lives, is particularly concerned with enhancing awareness about the contribution of voluntary work and social services to single parenthood in Malta. The Knights of St Lazarus, collaborators in this project, also aim at supporting the needy.

Through this conference, Dar Guzeppa Debono would also like to promote the works of mercy, especially the spiritual one "Instruct the ignorant" in this Holy Year of Mercy.

Community leaders, single parents and those working in this sector are invited to participate and share their views about improving existing services and ensuring professionality in dealing with this issue.

The conference is taking place on Saturday, the 19th of March from 9.30am to noon. The programme will be as follows:

• An orientating introduction by a speaker representing the bodies hosting the conference.

• A feature about voluntary work in the area of single parenthood in Gozo.

• A keynote speech about 'The ideal situation for single parents' by an expert in the field.

• A discussion by a three-member panel and audience participation to evaluate the further development of appropriate services.

• An analysis of the conference and proposals for the future.

• A concluding address by H.E. Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo.

The discussion will be led by journalist Keith Demicoli.

While the conference is not against payment, those who wish to lunch afterwards at the Hotel may do so at the price of €25.
