Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Professor Arnold Cassola, has written to President Marie-Louise Coliero Preca, requesting that Daniel Holmes serves the remainder of his prison term in Wales.

In the letter Prof. Cassola wrote, "I am writing about the case of Daniel Holmes, who is serving imprisonment in Malta.

"Without going in the merits of the case, we believe it appropriate that, given the fact that Mr. Holmes has just had a child with his partner, it should be made possible for him to see his children more often."

"To this end, we ask Your Excellency to consider proposing that Mr Holmes continues to serve the remainder of his prison sentence in Wales, where he can be closer to his loved ones."

In 2011 he was sentenced to 10 years 6 months in prison and a fine of €23,000, after being found guilty of cultivating cannabis in Gozo.

In October 2013 Daniel Holmes appealed his prison sentence for growing cannabis plants. His appeal was rejected and the sentence upheld.

Holmes has two daughters, his second daughter was conceived during a conjugal rights visit at Corradino prison, and he saw her for the first time at three months old during a visit to the prison by his wife and baby daughter in February.
