Professor Paul Cooper and Dr Carmel Cefai, presented a copy of their recently published report to Minister for Gozo, the Giovanna Debono. This report presents the findings of a national study on social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in primary and secondary schools in Malta and Gozo.

The study, Engagement Time: A national study on social, emotional and behaviour difficulties in Maltese schools, was conducted by the University Of Malta and the University of Leicester and includes various findings related to students attending the Gozo College. The secondary schools in Gozo, particularly the Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex, also helped in the piloting of some of the instruments used in the study.

During this meeting, the Minister for Gozo stated that education has always been and still is, one of the most important policies for government as it forms the basis of an individual’s development which leads to better opportunities and best use of our country’s human resources potential for the benefit of the sustainable development of our society. She stressed that during the planning and implimentation of the National Minimum Curriculum, care must be given to the varying abilities of students. Minister Debono said that this is why continuous studies and recommendations are neccessary, so that our educational system will truly prove to be an inclusive one where all may succeed.

Chev. Frank Gatt, Principal of the Gozo College, and Dr. Francis Abela, Head of the Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex, were also present during this presentation.
