Zminijietna – Voice of the Left, has appealed Parliament to start debating the issue of precarious jobs. "This issue is wide spread in the labour market and is affecting a large amount of workers from different sectors of the economy," it said.

"The legislation should clearly define those jobs that are precarious in nature, where the worker faces insecurity, inferior conditions of work and low wages. Jobs on temporary contract, temporary agency workers and part-time work as sole employment should all be classified as precarious employment," stated Zminijietna.

"The right wing argument in favour of flexibility in the labour market and job mobilisation should not come at the expense of the workers' rights and conditions. Workers have every right for decent and regular employment."

With regards to low wages, Zminijietna appealed once again for an increase in the National minimum wage. "If implemented, this will positively affect workers who are in the risk of falling beneath the poverty line."

Zminijietna added that "Parties who consider themselves progressive should strive towards this aim."
