Last Thursday, the families of students at Gozo College San Lawrenz Primary School were invited to the school's Open Day.

The activities started off with an informative meeting about internet safety, the use of tablets and the parents' room on the Virtual Learning Environment. After the singing of the school and college anthems, the Mayor of our locality, Mr Noel Formosa, rewarded the students for participating in the Local Council's Walk to School programme.

Then it was Zumba time for all – parents, staff and students – after which there were games organised by the Gozo College's PE teachers and the Sports Promotion Unit teacher.

The School said that it was a truly unique experience to see the parents joining in the fun alongside their children and staff.

Meanwhile a healthy lunch had been prepared by the School Council's parent members, to which the by-now hungry participants eagerly helped themselves.

The primary pupils then took part in a Show and Do session, in which each of them had a few minutes to show off their skills, hobbies, talents or participation in associations, clubs and NGOs.

The children delighted everyone present with their singing, dancing, demonstrations and interviews conducted by the PSCD teachers.

"They will surely treasure the confidence which they have gained from speaking and delivering their act in front of a large audience," the School said.

Whilst this activity was going on the Kindergarten pupils, along with some of next year's new entrants, were having fun with their Kindergarten Assistant. During this activity they had action songs, educational games and also a Read with Me session together. The children enjoyed themselves so much that none of them wanted to leave when the session ended!

The School said that it had received positive feedback about the Open Day activity and was now looking forward to an even bigger and better day of event next year.

"We are grateful to all the staff and volunteers who helped to make this special day such a success."
