The Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport Chris Agius, have inaugurated a new pavilion at Ghajn Melel Shooting Range in Zebbug, Gozo.
Minister Refalo said the collaboration between the Gozo Sports Board and SportMalta, has started to bear fruit, with this first project financed by SportMalta with the work of the Gozo Sports Board within the Ministry for Gozo.
Dr Refalo said that the new pavilion will help shooters to practice their sport in one of the most beautiful shooting ranges in the Maltese Islands, for this ever-growing sport.
The Minister thanked SportMalta for its assistance and said that more joint projects are envisaged in the near future.
Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius said that after SportMalta extended its programmes in the island, many children had participated in sports that were not previously offered in Gozo.
Mark Cutajar, CEO of SportMalta, mentioned that this is just the first phase of the project where the greatest need was the pavilion that had been left in a bad state.
He said that SportMalta was being a shoulder for the Gozo Sports Board by helping with various initiatives including financial support for a Gozo Sports Weekend. He added that SportMalta had extended OnTheMove Summer in Gozo for the first time, following the success of OnTheMove SkolaSport Gozo.
