The Scout Association of Malta has officially launched its e-learning platform this month. This is expected to provide further accessibility to all its leaders, enabling them to complete certain training modules in their own time. This will in turn increase the learning capacity in the future.

Speaking at the launch, which happened during the Getting Started Introductory meeting, the Commissioner for Training & Programme Adrian Farrugia, explained that the idea behind this platform was to raise the quality of the human resource available to the organisation.

He also said that with the growing influence of technology in all spheres across the world, including the education sector, the use of technology such as the e-learning platform are now becoming increasingly popular.

This platform shifts the focus away from the conventional classroom to online, with the aim of helping leaders to become well-grounded in their role via a user-friendly portal.

Adrian also highlighted that, "the direction in education worldwide now is to leverage technology to deliver lessons. This is one reason why we are partially moving training and learning from the classroom to the online domain using technology. Our goal is to make people better at their craft. Leadership must keep learning to stay abreast of any changes and new ideology in the Scouting arena."

"The moment you stop learning, you become obsolete. We have launched this platform to revolutionise learning and help people to continue their learning process in the most simplified manner," Adrian added.

The implementation process will happen in the next few months where each leader will receive the necessary information, logins and assistance to benefit from the online learning modules.

The Association said that it is also important to note that the e-learning platforms will not completely substitute the current face-to-face training sessions, since sharing of experiences and working with leaders from other Groups is in itself an effective training technique.
