The Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo, met with Professor Vincent May, from the Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences at Bournemouth University in the UK.

Professor May is currently in Gozo and is expected to commence three day study at the Azure Window, Dwejra.

The study will focus on geology, primarily regarding the deterioration of the Azure Window. Furthermore, the study is expected to focus on what is causing the damage to the Azure Window, such as rain or high waves.

Dr Refalo expressed his satisfaction with the study. He stressed that the Azure Window is an icon associated with Gozo.

He added that its current state is not through neglect in some way or another by the Maltese Government, but from the effect that nature has had on it.

The Minister said that although at some time in the future the Azure Window will undergo its inevitable fate, it is still important to carry out this study.
