Kaccaturi San Ubertu (KSU) said that it has presented its 2016 Spring Hunting Report and Survey to the European Commission and the relevant Maltese authorities.

KSU said that since 2011 it has contributed information on hunting and the migration trends of Turtle Dove and Quail throughout the spring hunting season. Observations were coordinated by 22 KSU members spread throughout the Maltese islands in collaboration with other members in their vicinity.

Observers were asked to record daily sightings of both species together with other data relevant to hunting throughout the short derogation period. KSU added that, the findings of this and previous reports are intended to assist the European Commission in its evaluation of spring hunting based on documented facts.

KSU said that it concurred with statements by the Committee Against Bird Slaughter and Independent ornithologists that noted a "significant improvement" in illegalities.

"Having asked its members to monitor their hunting areas, KSU notes no illegal incidents were reported."

KSU concluded by saying that it "offers all its resources towards any beneficial measures and studies related to the sustainable hunting of Europe's game birds Mark Mifsud Bonnici."
