Malta and Gozo, every year commemorates the tragic events of the 7th of June 1919, known as the 'Sette Giugno.'

This is in remembrance of the riots of 1919 when the Maltese people revolted against the British administration and demanded some form of representative government for the island. Four people died on that fateful day. One the victims during these riots was Guzeppi Bajada, who was born in Xaghra.

The Sette Giugno 1919 riots, are to be commemorated in Xaghra, during a ceremony organised by the National and Regional Celebrations Committee within the Ministry for Gozo, in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council and the Xaghra Historical Reenactment Organisation.

This commemorative ceremony will take place next Sunday, the 5th of June, with this programme:

9.45am: Memorial mass at the Nativity of Our Lady Basilica, Xaghra.

Followed by a: Reenactment in Victory Square by the Xaghra Historical Reenactment Organisation.

There will then be a commemorative ceremony, including the playing of the Last Post and the Reveille, and the laying of wreaths in front of Guzeppi Bajada's monument in the lower part of Bullara Street.
