Nadur's Mnarja Philharmonic Band will be holding its June Annual Symphonic Concert entitled 'Big Band Adventures,' at Can Martin Camilleri Square, Nadur on Wednesday, the 22nd of June, starting at 9.00pm.
The event is being organised by the Mnarja Philharmonic Society with the collaboration of the Nadur Local Council and the Ministry for Gozo to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul – patron saints of Nadur village in Gozo.
The Mnarja band said that it has over the last 24 years, been organising this spectacular concert introducing new repertoire and music arrangements every year. "The genre was very innovative to Gozo, encouraging other local bands to follow suit."
It added that, "apart from the already vast repertoire of classical pieces that adorned the band's music archive, it is now enriched with over 270 new music arrangements covering practically all soundtracks from musical theatre, soundtracks from blockbuster films as also pop and rock arrangements that were never performed in the Gozitan band music scenario.
This year's concert, the band said, includes yet again, music arrangements never performed on Gozitan soil by local bands namely: "The Beach Boys," "Sinfonia from Bellini's opera Norma," "Strauss Party," "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly," "Tribute to Frank Sinatra," "Simply the Best: Tina Turner," "Post Horn Gallop," "Main theme from Thor: The Dark World," "The Best of Movies" and "Queen in Concert."
As in previous years a comic/surprise piece will also feature to render the evening more entertaining to the public. The Mnarja Band will be under the direction of its Music Director Mro Joseph Grech and guest singers Gozitan Sarah Bonnici and Maltese pop singer Ludwig Galea.
The general public is invited to attend and entrance is free of charge. A reception will follow.
