A 76-year-old British man from Xaghra has been struck by a boat and killed whilst swimming at Hondoq Bay in Gozo.
The owner of the boat immediately took the victim to the shore where he was given first aid.
Sadly the man passed away in the ambulance whilst enroute to the Gozo General Hospital.
Police investigations are underway and members of the Armed Forces of Malta are also assisting.

Yes indeed a sad story, we went down Hondoq to-day walking our dog and looks very much normal as before & business as usual as if nothing had happened, boats and divers busy, though less swimmers then normal at 11.00 hrs. Needless to say RIP to the poor old chap.
Hondoq apart from the stinging jellyfish with so many motorised boats operating near the bathers area, divers and others has become a dangers beach, a safer beach would be the Red Beach, but Hondoq is out for some of us visitors from the UK. RIP to our countryman.on > Fathers day>.<
Yes most definitely we find that red beach is by far safer, cleaner and excellent for the kiddies with ample parking space and a choice or 3 restaurants, w love the place but as far as Hondoq and all the jelly fish under the sea its a no go area for us, too small and too dirty, pebbles/stone everywhere.Although there are swimmer’s zones separating the many boats moving in and out we i still do not trust the little bay for fear of another accident waiting to happen, Maybe Mepa should go ahead and update the area regardless of what some foreigners opinion and locals think. I say safety first first and foremost.
