BirdLife Malta, in a statement this evening condemned the regular rave parties with loud music being allowed to take place in a Natura 2000 site, especially, it said, at this time of year during raptor migration."This is totally unacceptable."

BirdLife Malta said that it was tonight informed that a rave party is currently being held in Buskett.

The NGO added that earlier today over sixty Black Kites (Astun Iswed) roosted in the area, only to be heavily disturbed when loud music started being played in preparation for what seems to be a big rave party in the area.

"Buskett is a Natura 2000 site with money being spent to transform it into an ideal place where biodiversity can thrive. Such events go completely against the spirit of a nature reserve, especially a Natura 2000 site."

BirdLife Malta is urging the Malta Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) to look into this matter at the earliest. Saying that it hopes that a solution can be found as soon as possible.

"What happened today cannot be repeated," said BirdLife Malta. Adding that it, "reminds the authorities of their obligation to manage Natura 2000 sites adequately."
