The pool area of the Cornucopia was the setting for the annual Gozo Live play reading performance.
The plays had been entered in the Gozo Live play writing competition. The judges had commented on the high standard of plays received this year and the difficulty of their task of selecting a winner.
Rob Ricards, writer of the plays Stroke and The Big Push was the winner with George Camilleri and Vincent Vella, as runners up for their plays, The Cave of Ta'Xhajma and Good Boy Makes Good.
The large and enthusiastic audience who atteneded for the evening were treated to readings of six plays written by local people. They also heard two poems written by young talented Gozitan poet, Neville Sultana.
A cast of actors read the different roles, directed by Marion Sayers who also played a number of parts.
The settings for the plays were varied and the themes different, but many were evocative of life here, causing chuckles from the audience as they recognised typically Gozitan foibles. The organisers said that some of the visitors to the island who were also in the audience "seemed to enjoy the plays even if they did not appreciate the finer nuances of life here."
Details of the 2017 play writing competition are expected to be announced in the New Year.
