'Move on up' is a youth exchange project involving a total of 60 youths from 2 different countries: Malta, and the UK, organised by the Emergency Response & Rescue Corps of Gozo.

The group was made up of young people with special needs and youths with fewer opportunities who came together at a camping site in Dwejra, Gozo.

The ERRC said that many of the UK young people came from a very deprived borough in inner city London called Tower Hamlets, which it said, is well known for having high levels of deprivation, overcrowding and a lack of affordable housing.

The ERRC developed the idea for this project with the collaboration with partner organisation Maltese Culture Movement which also works in the youth sector.

The main themes of this exchange were to develop more awareness on the need for social inclusion of persons with some form of disability and those with fewer opportunities and to promote active citizenship and mutual understandings of different cultures.

The activity was held in the form of a camping activity. Camping in itself is an activity that brings people closer to each other. Camping is also very appealing to young people, and it is considered a very social activity.

Move Up included several activities such as a mixture of outdoor activities including zip lining, workshops and discussions, and culinary nights, presentations and tutorials which were all intended to promote the main themes of this project.

Dr Justyne Caruana – Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, attended the camping activity and delivered an informative talk about the role of people with disability to the participants.
