Provisional data indicate that the industrial producer price index in September 2016 decreased by 0.02 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in previous year, the National Statistics Office said today.

This was due to a decrease of 1.28 per cent in the prices within consumer goods but mitigated by increases within intermediate goods (0.74 per cent) and capital goods (0.52 per cent). No price changes occurred in the energy sector.

Producer prices for the domestic market increased by 0.45 per cent. Price increases were recorded in consumer goods (1.13 per cent), capital goods (0.43 per cent) and intermediate goods (0.03 per cent).

Non-domestic prices decreased by 0.35 per cent due to a drop of 1.33 per cent within the euro area. Prices for the non-euro area rose by 0.23 per cent.

During September the producer price index for total industry increased by 0.24 per cent mainly due to an increase in the prices of intermediate goods (0.53 per cent) and consumer goods (0.01 per cent). No changes were registered in the prices for the energy and capital goods groupings.

Domestic market prices dropped by 0.02 per cent due to a fall of 0.10 per cent within intermediate goods. No changes were registered in the other categories, except for an increase of 0.02 per cent within consumer goods.

Prices for the non-domestic market increased by 0.42 per cent. This was due to a rise of 0.29 per cent in the prices within the euro area and of 0.49 per cent within the non-euro area.
