On Saturday, to mark the occasion of Council Day 2016, and on the eve of Feast of San Koronatu, the Nadur Local Council presented the `Gieh in-Nadur 2016' Award to Charlton Debono.

This presentation made by Mayor Edward Said took place during the `Big Band Adventures' concert by the Mnarja Band under the direction of Mro Joseph Grech, at the MBC Theatre in Nadur.Charlton Debono was presented with the award for his successes in the field of sports, particularly that of athletics. Charlton, who was born in 1984, is married and a teacher, he has competed in running competitions both in Gozo and Malta as well as abroad.

In addition to its continued success over the last two years and his record breaking times, he also competed in the World Half Marathon Championships in Wales, and in the Championships of the Small States of Europe.

Charlton Debono is eighteenth recipient of this award since 1998, and the youngest ever to win it.
