Europe Direct Information Centre – Victoria Gozo (EDIC) recently organised another tree-planting event ‘Plant a Tree for Peace’ on Ghammar Hill, located opposite Ta’ Pinu, as part of an on-going project to embellish the hill and create a Biblical Garden along the Way of the Cross.

Students from the Gozo College Victoria and Zebbug Primary schools, as well as St Francis Primary and Bishop’s Conservatory Girls Secondary schools participated.

As well as actually planting more trees, the students spoke about what they have been doing in connection with the on-going projects, undertaken by their respective schools, as part of the ‘Edic/Leaf Award Scheme’ organised by the EDIC-Victoria Gozo in collaboration with the Learning About Forests Malta (LEAF).

Prizes consisting of gardening tool and seeds were presented by EDIC to each school, while the overall winner was presented with a Greenhouse sponsored by the Bank of Valletta.

Each school was also presented by certificates from ENO which is a global virtual school network for sustainable development. ENO made a strong commitment in Rio+20 Summit of planting 100 million trees by 2017.
