Wirt Ghawdex has had cause for celebration over the past 24 hours, after it was presented with the Volunteer Organisation Award for 2016, by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, at a ceremony held in Malta.
The presentation was made by the Minister for Social Dialogue Helen Dalli, in the presence of the Chairman of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector – Nathan Farrugia.
The Volunteer Organisation Award is awarded to a Voluntary Organisation who has been outstanding in the sector in which it operates, being both innovative in its approach and services within the community as well as in its way of recruiting and supporting volunteers.
Wirt Ghawdex thanked the judging board for recognising the value of their work. The NGO also thanked the volunteers and all those involved in the work carried out by the organisation for their efforts throughout the past years. “This encourages us to continue striving to safeguard Gozo and Comino’s heritage for future generations,” the NGO said.
Another piece of good news for the NGO was that the President of Wirt Ghawdex Dr. Paul George Pisani, had won the National Book Prize Award, in the Historiographic Research category, for his latest publication – The Battle of Lepanto: 7 October 1571 An Unpublished Hospitaller Account – (Salesians of Don Bosco).
Wirt Ghawdex gave its congratulations to Dr Pisani on receiving this award.
