“Rather than pussy footing on whether or not one should ban glyphosate, our Environment Minister should take the lead on banning products containing harmful chemicals which are entering our food chain or are being inhaled by our citizens,” Partit Demokratiku (PD) said in a statement today.

“Leading by example the Minister should encourage local councils to make sure that subcontractors are not making use of glyphosate in our urban and rural areas. The government should enforce a ban on glyphosate and products containing glyphosate in any contracts given out to subcontracts. Furthermore, the government should specify which companies are still making use of it locally.”

Dr Anthony Buttigieg, PD’s deputy leader and spokesperson on the environment said that the government “cannot shirk it’s responsibility and should bite the bullet and ban glyphosate.”

Partit Demokratiku has asked the Minister to take action to safeguard the population’s health from cancer causing chemicals.”The Environment Minister can do more to protect our citizens when we know that these are harmful to both humans and animals alike.”
