42nd edition of the Teamsport Gozo Half MarathonThere are just under two weeks to go until the 42nd edition of the Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon, which this year is taking place on Sunday, the 30th of April.

The Organising Committee said that this event is by far the largest and longest-standing athletic event in Gozo, attracting hundreds of athletes, from many different nations.

There is still time to register participation and prospective applicants can participate in the traditional Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon (21.1km) or the 8 mile (12.9 km) race. Due to popular demand, as from this year the Organising Committee is also introducing an 8 mile walkathon.

Children between the ages of 9 and 15 can also participate in the 2km or 4km races, depending on their age. A 2km Fun Run is also open to all ages, making it possible for the whole family to actively participate in any race of their choice.

The Organising Committee, acknowledging the fact that the Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon event is constantly growing on a yearly basis, has made it a point to invest in a new finish-line RFID chip system.

It said that this system will be introduced in this year’s event, ultimately enhancing the professionality of the race and further improving the overall experience for the athlete.

All races start at 9.15am and start and end at the Xaghra Square. Moreover, every participating athlete who successfully crosses the finish line will be awarded with a newly designed medal. A total of 87 trophies and €1,000 in vouchers redeemable from Teamsport will also be awarded to the best performers.

The participation fees applicable until Thursday, the 27th of April, are the following:

Half marathon, 8 mile race/walkathon: €20

4km, 2km: €10

2km Fun Run: €10

Registration includes free transport between the Mgarr Ferry Terminal and Xaghra Square, a Diadora technical running top and a goody bag. Showering and sanitary facilities are also available in the meeting point at the Xaghra Youth Centre.

The organisers said that no applications will be accepted after the 27th of April.

More information could be found on the website www.gozomarathon.org and interested participants can also register online through the secured payment system. The organisers can be contacted by email at info@gozomarathon.org.

The Gozo Half Marathon Organising Committee lies within the Xaghra Youth Centre and is being supported by Teamsport, Diadora, San Michel, Gatorade, Xaghra Local Council and Malta Tourism Authority.
