The National Statistics Office said in a statement today that, the industrial producer price index registered a decrease in March of 0.20 per cent when compared to the same month last year.

This was mainly due to a drop of 1.10 per cent in intermediate goods. The NSO said that this decrease was mitigated by an increase of 0.72 per cent within consumer goods and by 0.65 per cent in capital goods. No price changes occurred in the energy sector.

For the domestic market, industrial producer prices increased by 2.40 per cent. Price increases were recorded in the consumer goods (5.49 per cent) and intermediate goods (1.80 per cent) sectors. Non-domestic prices fell by 2.04 per cent due to decreases of 2.33 per cent within the euro area and 1.84 per cent within the non-euro area.

The producer price index for total industry in March decreased by 0.15 per cent over the previous month. This was due to a decrease in the prices of intermediate goods (0.27 per cent) and consumer goods (0.09 per cent). No changes were registered in the energy and capital goods sectors, the NSO said.

An increase of 0.05 per cent was registered on domestic market prices, due to rises of 0.16 per cent and 0.02 per cent within the intermediate and consumer goods sectors respectively.

For the non-domestic market prices decreased by 0.29 per cent. This was due to a drop of 0.42 per cent in the non-euro area and by 0.07 per cent within the euro area, the NSO said.
