University of Malta advises no changes to exams timetableThe University of Malta, in a statement this afternoon, has advised that there will be no changes to the timetable of examinations being held in the run-up to the general election.

It said that KSU informed the University that following consultations with different student organisations, it has clearly emerged that the majority of students “strongly oppose changes to the examination schedule.”

The University added that under the circumstances, all examinations will be held as originally planned at the University of Malta and the Junior College. It also said that in addition, MATSEC sessions at all levels will proceed as planned.

The necessary arrangements have been made by the University with the Electoral Commission, it said, “to ensure that examination venues being used by MATSEC will not be used as polling stations.”

Road patrols will be set-up at the entrance to the University on Monday, the 5th of June, to ensure that only students and members of staff are allowed access to the university’s premises.

The University said that such measures should facilitate the flow of traffic entering university and avoid unnecessary delays.

Furthermore, it said that the University Library and other important facilities will be opened at 7am to cater for those students who opt to turn up early on campus.

The University also said that it will be granting a special concession to those University students who will be unable to sit for the exams on the 3rd, 5th and 6th June as a result of their direct involvement in the electoral process. It said that these students will be given the opportunity to take the missed examinations as a first sit in September.
