The Electoral Commission has issued information for polling day and the collection of voting documents for those who may have difficulties.
It said that persons who are over 75 years and stretcher cases from hospitals and other Old People’s institutions, will be allowed to avoid queueing at all times during the poll without the need of a medical certificate.
Persons aged between 60 and 75 years old, will be allowed to jump the queue from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.
The Electoral Commission said that all other persons who are sick and unable to wait in the queue must present a medical certificate in order to avoid the queue, and this facility would be permitted after 1.00pm.
Persons presenting a special identity card issued by the National Commission for Persons with Disability will be granted the same facility without the need of a medical certificate, the Commission said.
Applications from medical officers who are not contesting the elections will be received by the Electoral Commission for the issue of official forms which serve as a medical certificate so that sick persons are allowed to jump the queue during the poll within the above hours.
The Electoral Commission is distributing uncollected voting documents at the Identity Cards Office, Victoria, Gozo, for voters registered in Gozo and at the Electoral Office, Naxxar.
It said that voters in Gozo who are unable to get out of a private car near the Identity Cards Office, 28A, St. Francis Square, Victoria, Gozo, should have another person accompanying the driver and the voter so that the accompanying persons is able present the voter’s I.D. Card to one of the Commissioners and indicate to him the place where the voter in the parked car is.
The same service applies to those voters in Malta, who should be brought to the Electoral Office, Ex-Trade Fair Grounds, Naxxar by a private car.
If it is not possible for the elderly or sick person to be brought by a private car to collect their document, the Commission said that it will make an effort to deliver the document at their residence.
For this purpose, the Electoral Commission said that the voters themselves or a relative should call or contact the Electoral Office on 21411689/21411187/21412347 to give necessary details.
