The setting up of Ambjent Malta announced by Minister Jose Herrera in Parliament the other evening has been welcomed by Din L-Art Helwa.

The Minister said that this organisation is “to coordinate and support efforts related to the protection of environmental heritage.”

In a statement, DLH said that it is keen to see the detail of this proposed organisation, what its specific objectives are and how it is to achieve these ends.

The NGO added that it is also keen to see the Government “take the initiative in seriously protecting the environment especially Outside Development Zones (ODZ areas), which have been consistently targeted by speculators for development especially in view of the relaxation of planning regulations in this area.”

“The setting up of National Parks, would ensure that the most important areas of our natural landscapes can be effectively protected and urges the Minister to have this objective as part of Ambjent Malta’s brief,” concluded Din L-Art Helwa.
