Kaccaturi San Ubertu (KSU) has said that it has noted that the Opinion of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) Advocate General in the EU Commission’s case against Malta on the application of derogation for finch trapping, “points to this being against EU law.”

The KSU added that, although this opinion is not binding on the ECJ in its final verdict, “it clearly shows intolerance and a lack of understanding of live bird capture as practised in Malta.”

It said that it is following procedures closely, and “on behalf of its members that trap it will do its utmost within the law to safeguard this practice.”

Kaccaturi San Ubertu pledged its full support to the Government and the Authorities, “on their exemplary application of derogation” and urged them “to remain firm in their valid arguments defending the rights of Maltese trappers.”
