Il-Kuncert tal-Milied 2008 at St George’s Basilica

This year’s edition of Il-Kuncert tal-Milied, which will be the 11th year, organized by Chorus Urbanus Productions, is being performed at St. George’s Basilica, Victoria on Saturday, the 20th of December at 7.30pm.

The concert will feature the Malta premiere of Karl Kempter’s Pastoralmesse for soloists, choir and orchestra apart from other works by Bach, Vivaldi, Galea and Mozart plus the traditional fare of evergreen Christmas carols.

The Orchestra dell’Universita’ Kore di Enna will be hosted by the Chorus Urbanus and will feature in this year’s edition of Il-Kuncert tal-Milied. This tour has been made possible with the collaboration of the Mediterranean Institute, University of Malta and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the main sponsors are AON Malta Limited and the Victoria Local Council.

This is the only University Orchestra in Italy and it is renowned for its performances and collaborations with various musical eminences, including violinists Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, pianists Bruno Canino and Ruya Taner, and Vincenzo Mariozzi, the first clarinetist of the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, Roma. The orchestra is made up of 50 musicians and has toured as far as Canada and Tunisia. The orchestra will be under the direction of John Galea.

A repeat performance of the concert will be also held on Sunday the 21st of December at the Kalkara Parish Church, Malta, and the choir and orchestra will be under the direction of Maestro Massimo Leonardi, the orchestra’s principal conductor.

The Malta concert is being sponsored by the Kalkara Local Council.
