“The service of the Animal Welfare section in Gozo is currently undergoing a much needed change and reorganisation,” said the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana.

“The changes are to the infrastructure, where necessary works are being carried out to improve the existing buildings, as well as other changes for the employees, in order to further strengthen and improve the service already provided,” the Minister said.

Until this work is completed there will be a temporary structure in place for the animals waiting for adoption, and the rescue animals being cared for by Animal Welfare.

The Minister said that these structures, although temporary, are constructed according to the specifications required by the competent authorities. They will be in use until a modern centre is built and equipped to house the new section.

This is taking place at the same time as a wider consultation on the Xewkija experimental farm, which will look at how this government property can be put to better use for agriculture and animal welfare.

The Ministry for Gozo said that it also intends to create an area for a family park, where Gozitan families, and those visiting Gozo, have another recreation area to visit where they can relax and enjoy time with their families.

The Ministry for Gozo has already purchased a new ambulance to assist the Animal Welfare staff in the Gozo section, enabling them to be able to deliver a better service.
