Kaccaturi San Ubertu (KSU) is asking its members, other hunters, bird observers and the public, to keep a lookout for a very rare bird – a Bald Ibis – which has arrived on Malta this Sunday afternoon.
KSU said that the bird is, according to Dr. Natalino Fenech, a first recorded for Malta, it is an endangered species, and one of 15 from a reintroduction programme in the North of Italy.
Soon after it landed in Ta’ Qali, KSU said that Mark Zammit Cordina managed to capture a very good photo of the large big black bird with a long curved beak. “The Bald Ibis is still there under the watchful eyes of onlookers and ALE.”
The migration route shows that the bird has so far travelled over 1500 kilometres from Northern Italy, and KSU said that it “trusts that while the bird is observed at a distance without disturbance, it will continue on with its journey southwards.”
