GOUpdated: A fault in the GO submarine cable between Malta and Sicily is affecting their international broadband services, voice services have been restored utilising a microwave link with Sicily.

The company has apologised for any inconvenience caused and said its technical staff is working hard to locate and repair the cause of the problem.

This is the second time in four months that such a fault has disrupted international broadband services, the previous fault, in early August, lasted for several hours.

Ironically this evenings fault comes just a few weeks before a second GO submarine cable link is due to come into service.

Update: The fault in the submarine cable has now been located underwater some 120km off Catania.

GO have said they are not yet in a position to say when a repair may be effected and are currently liasing with Vodafone in order to utilise its international link as a contingency measure.
