Heritage Malta has taken immediate action and repaired a stone column and the front railings and of the Domvs Romana in Rabat after they were damaged when a vehicle crashed into the perimeter fence of the historic site in the early hours of Thursday morning.

In the incident a neo-classical ornamental filial which was on top of the column, toppled over and smashed into three parts. The filial was taken to the Heritage Malta stone laboratory at Bighi where it is being restored. The fence, including the columns and filials formed part of the original museum which was built in 1925 when Sir Dr Temistocles Zammit was Director of Museums.

The Domvs Romana which was completely refurbished in 2005, is open daily from 09.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs.

The site will be closed on December 24th, 25th and 31st and on January 1st.
