Recently at the Ta’ Qali Pavilion, a boxing tournament took place which was organized by John Essex of the Malta Boxing Board of Control. Boxers from Malta, Scotland and England took part, but the most eagerly awaited fight was that of the Maltese boxer Billy Corito against the English Boxer John Jennings.

Corito from the start attacked his opponent and was giving very strong punches, Jennings showed that he was feeling Corito’s punches because he remained closed. In the second round, Corito, once again went out attacking his opponent with string combinations prompting Jennings, Corito’s opponent, to signal to the referee Marcus Schembri to stop the fight immediately because he couldn’t stand to take any more punishment from Corito.

Much to the happiness of the Maltese supporters, Billy Corito now has a record of 3 wins from 3 fights.

Other results of the competition were: Tommy Forsythe won by KO against Mark Kent, Rodney ‘noni’ Mercieca and Daniel Borg ended up with a draw, Alan Chetchuti won by points against George Onslow, Ryan Kerr won by points against Scott Clist, and, Steve ‘Cobra’ Aquilina won by points against Nick Blackwell.
