The Teatru Manoel in collaboration with GO are proud to present the talented Sandro Zerafa and Cristina Vilallonga in the GO Music Weekend on the 31st of January and the 1st of February 2009 at Teatru Manoel.

This is the first time that GO will be launching a musical weekend at the Manoel Theatre, with the aim of maintaining it as a regular feature of the Malta’s cultural calendar.

The GO Music Weekend was launched by Manoel Theatre Chairman Dr Peter Fenech and GO Chief Executive Officer David Kay. This year’s edition will feature jazz and tango music.

Sandro Zerafa, Malta’s most prominent jazz guitarist, will be returning to Malta with his latest project, White Russian 5tet. Winner of several awards, including 3rd prize at the French National Jazz concert of La Defense, he has recently been awarded a “Disque d’Emoi” (best Jazz release) by popular French critic Franck Bergerot for his debut recording with his quintet. Sandro moved to Paris in 2000 after graduating from the Lyons Conservatory in jazz guitar. Since then he has been very active on the French jazz scene collaborating with many important musicians. Current projects include the Nico Gori European 4tet, Brazilian Jazz ensemble Botafogo, Robin Nicaise 6tet. Sandro has performed in clubs and festivals worldwide – South Korea, France, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey.

Cristina Vilallonga’s relationship with music began when singing with her family from a very early age. From 1978 to 1985 while studying journalism, she studied solfege and voice in the Aula de Musica Moderna y Jazz (Barcelona). From 1985 to 1990 she studied voice, piano and composition at Berklee College of Music (Boston) graduating (Cum Laude) in Composition and Film scoring. She recorded her first CD in 1980. In 1988, she began to interpret her own compositions, both live and recorded in Boston, New England, New York (1988-1991) and in Paris (1997-2000). In Paris she recorded as solo singer and went on tour with the world famous group of electronic tango Grotan Project (2001-2007).

GO Chief Executive Officer David Kay said the communications company prides itself as one of the leading promoters of arts and culture in Malta by supporting the development of Malta’s cultural scene.

Dr. Peter Fenech, Chairman of Teatru Manoel, described this event as another milestone both from the artistic content and from the corporate and social responsibility dimension. This weekend will, in tandem with GO, bring Tango to this Theatre for yet another season, and add Jazz to our music calendar.

This year Teatru Manoel launched a varied and ambitious music calendar.
