The EU27 has agreed a joint framework for the organisation of citizens’ consultations in all 27 Member States.
The reason behind this is that the European Union is facing a number of important challenges such as that relating to migration and security as well as Brexit.
It is the aim of these consultations to involve a significant number of European citizens, be it through dialogues with citizens, debates or digital consultations or through representative bodies, in order to identify Europeans’ main concerns, hopes and expectations.
The citizens’ consultations will be used to inform deliberations by Heads of State and Government, and will help them to identify priorities for action over the next few years.
They are intended as a tangible means of identifying concerns, ideas and political priorities for action – with a consultative character, though not as a mandate for legislation – at European level.
As the national focal point for the citizens’ consultations in Malta, MEUSAC will be organising a series of events in Malta and Gozo during the coming months.
MEUSAC said that a consultation is planned to be organised in Gozo for later this year, full information will be issued closer to the date.
It said that with the theme – Ghid tieghek dwar l-Ewropa – these events will be part of a large-scale public consultation process which will focus on various themes related to the Future of Europe, such as innovation, migration, social convergence and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), among others.
The Citizens’ Consultations in Malta will be launched on Tuesday, the 31st of July, at the Auberge d’Aragon, Independence Square, Valletta with a Citizens’ Dialogue starting with registration at 10.00am.
The event, moderated by Dr Vanni Xuereb, Head of MEUSAC, will see the participation of Madame Nathalie Loiseau – Minister for European Affairs of the French Republic, Dr Helena Dalli – Minister for European Affairs and Equality, Dr Aaron Farrugia – Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds and Social Dialogue, Dr Alfred Sant – MEP (S&D), Dr Francis Zammit Dimech – MEP (EPP), and Dr Elena Grech – Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta.
Proceedings will be in Maltese and simultaneous translations will be provided in Maltese, English and French.
Refreshments will be served at the end of the event.
i hope that all pre existing agreements between the U.K. and malta regarding residential rights , medical agreements , as arranged between them prior to malta becoming a member of the E.U.will remain after brexit .
