Data from the National Statistics Office today, show that in July the annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) was 1.0%, up from 0.97% in the previous month.

It noted that the largest upward impact on annual inflation was measured in the Food Index at 2.92%, followed by Household Equipment and Household Maintenance Costs at 2.05%.

The NSO said that this was mainly due to higher prices of take-aways and furniture respectively.

It said that the largest downward impact was recorded in the Clothing and Footwear Index -3.08%, mainly reflecting lower prices for garments.
