Ramla l-Hamra still under threat of development - ADAD Secretary General and spokesperson for Gozo Victor Galea today reiterated that the pristine area of Ramla l-Hamra in Gozo is still under threat of development.

Mr Galea said, “Although, late last year, PN MEP Simon Busuttil insisted with the European Parliament Petitions Committee to close a petition submitted by Alternattiva Demokratika and residents against the development at Ramla l-Hamra (Gozo) and later opposed its reopening simply because, according to him, there was no authorized development in Ramla to object to, the truth is that there is in fact still the possibility of development in Ramla.”

Victor Galea concluded, “Here in Malta and also in the European Parliament AD will continue working to safeguard what little remains of our countryside after years upon years of ravage and irresponsible governance.”

The appeal on the Ramla l-Hamra case is going to be heard by the Planning Appeals Board at the University Centre (Xewkija) Gozo on Friday 6th February at 10 a.m.

Unfortunately Victor it would seen that this is the way things are done in Malta and Gozo. If you are refused permission to develop you just keep appealing until they change their minds. Given the fact that everyone knows everyone on the islands it’s only a matter of time before you find that an old friend is making the decision in your favour, or maybe even a new found friend!

It is very frightening to see what the present (and past) governments have done and are doing to this group of islands. Are they not aware that there are basic rules to be adhered to, irrespective of which party are governing? So how can this project be rising its ugly head again?

Surely by now the inhabitants of these islands, and the rulers no longer need to “wash” each other’s hands and feet and, and, and…

I am always confused when I read about “government property”, surely this is “State property” – surely buildings like the Castille or St. Elmo don’t belong to either the Nationalist or Labour Party? It belongs to the State of Malta and its PEOPLE, it should merely be ‘protected’ by the current regime – or am I wrong?

Therefore hands off the national and natural treasures of these islands, once and for all!
