The National Blood Transfusion Service has issued an urgent call for blood, with all types needed.

It said that in connection with this urgent call, the Service would like to remind the public that the health service is dependent on sufficient reserves of blood in order to supply the major needs of hospitals on both islands.

“It is also good to keep in mind that blood can not be purchased as is done in the case medications, but comes from donations and those altruistic people who are eligible to donate blood,” the Service said.

If you would like to respond to this urgent call, there is a blood donation session in Gozo this coming Sunday, the, 13th of October and the Service is urging Gozitans to please donate if possible.

The session is between 8:00am and 1:00pm – last registration is 1:00pm – at the District Health Centre in Xewkija.

It is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand.
