The recently-appointed Director General of Eurostat, Mr Walter Radermacher, is expected to visit the National Statistics Office in Spring, the NSO Director General Mr Michael Pace Ross has announced.

Mr Pace Ross met Mr Radermacher at a conference in The Hague last week. The conference, organised by Eurostat and Statistics Netherlands at the World Forum Conference Centre, focused on the results of the Cracow Action Plan Partnership Group. Participants discussed the new legal and institutional framework for European statistics, future statistical challenges, and resource management and programming.

Mr Pace Ross also had talks with Mr Steven Keuning, Director General of Statistics at the European Central Bank, who was in Malta last year.

In October 2009 NSO will be hosting a high-level conference in Malta for Directors General of all national statistical institutes in the 27 EU Member States. These DGINS conferences, as they are known, are the most important forum in the EU for discussions on the future and development of the European Statistical System.
