President Eddie Fenech Adami, recently met with the Mayors of Malta and Gozo who were led by Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary and Mayor Michael Cohen, President of the Local Council Association on the occasion of the 15th anniversary since the Local Councils were established.

Mayor Cohen showed his appreciation to the President for being instrumental, when Prime Minister, in the introduction of the Local Councils in Malta and Gozo. The President has seen the work which was carried out by Local Councils in his official visits to several localities.

The President recalled the preparatory work that had to be carried prior to the Local Councils’ first elections, thorough research on boundaries, coat-of-arms of each locality and the legislation.

The President thanked the Mayors and Councilors for the valuable contribution they have given, and are giving towards the enhancement of their towns and villages and for making Local Councils a success.
