The Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary with a series of festivities, including hosting an exclusive Kempinski Soirée on Sunday.

The hotel said that this memorable evening brought together the local key influencers and associates of the hotel.

The Hotel was officially inaugurated on the 29th of June 1999 with the name of San Lawrenz Leisure Resort, and two years later joined Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group Kempinski.

The red-carpet event opened the ceremony with speeches by Mr. Bernold Schroeder, Chief Operating Officer of Europe and Member of Management Board at Kempinski, Ms Dorothy Baldacchino a Director of Baldacchino Group and the Minister for Tourism, Dr. Konrad Mizzi.

A tribute video in honour of the late Mr. Joe Baldacchino followed the speeches. The video touched the audience portraying Mr. Baldacchino as an “inspirational role model. He changed the hotel offer in Gozo through his charisma and vision of the future,” the hotel said.

Mr. Bernold Schroeder in his speech, praised Joe Baldacchino for his vision and entrepreneurship. He thanked the family for the fruitful and trusting partnership with Kempinski while also thanking the local authorities for their support.

“You have a beautiful destination and should be proud of a world class destination with fantastic heritage and kind people,” he said.Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz celebrates 20th anniversary in styleMs Dorothy Baldacchino remarked that Gozo is a unique destination in Europe and distinguished from Malta. “Investing further in quality tourism is the only way forward, as quantity does not automatically equate to quality.”

She added that “we need to make sure, that as a nation where tourism is a pillar of our economy, we continue to invest in the education of our future generations so that we indeed keep our islands beautiful, and reinstate in our youngsters the sentiment that a career in the hospitality industry is indeed a rewarding one.”

Minister for Tourism Dr. Konrad Mizzi, praised the 20 years of success in creating a luxury product for the island of Gozo and putting the destination on the tourism map with Kempinski. Gozo “has an amazing potential for tourism. The island has challenges but also opportunities,” he said.

Dr. Mizzi also stated also that “tourism requires vision and works have been carried out to improve the product. Frequency of transport will be added to improve mobility to Gozo,” said the Minister.
