Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party has expressed its solidarity with workers of ST Microelectronics and other places of work, in view of the uncertainty they are facing regarding their employment.

Prof Arnold Cassola, AD Chairperson, said, “AD expresses its solidarity with workers at ST and at other enterprises which are currently facing economic difficulties. We are four-square behind the Government and the General Workers’ Union, which are both doing their utmost to safeguard employment. We believe that this is not the moment for partisan bickering and opportunism over workers’ jobs.”

Michael Briguglio, Spokesperson for Social and Economic Development, added, “The secrecy being shown by ST Microelectronics is adding to the uncertainty, especially when one considers that workers have various financial commitments. AD augurs that Government does everything in its power to avoid job losses. The downsizing of ST will have negative effects not only on its workers, but also on many other workers and small companies which give their services to the company. We appeal to Government to be courageous in its negotiations, making use of experienced professionals in the field.”
