There were an estimated 280,522 inbound visitors to the Maltese Islands during June. This was an increase of 5.5% when compared to last year, the National Statistic Office said today.

251,747 inbound tourist trips were carried out for holiday purposes, while a further 15,545 was for business.

The NSO noted that there was an increase of 17.1% for inbound tourists from Non-EU countries.

Total nights spent increased by 5.1% on last year, surpassing 1.9 million nights, with the largest share of guest nights (53.4%) spent in collective accommodation establishments.

June’s total tourist expenditure was estimated at €235.4 million, up 10.7% on last year, the NSO said.

For the first six months of this year inbound tourist trips amounted to 1,208,068, an increase of 3.9% on 2018. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 2.4% reaching nearly 7.9 million nights.

€883.5 million, was the estimated total tourism expenditure for this period, which was 5.1%higher than 2018. The NSO said that total expenditure per capita stood at €731, an increase of 1.1% on last year.
