Gozitan youngster Jacob Zerafa recently took part in the Alpe Adria BMX Championship, which was held in Muhlen, Austria.
This was his second international experience, following his participation in the BMX Cup in Verona.
Jacob spends a lot of his time practising his favourite sport in the facilities of the Malta BMX Association in Pembroke.
Competing in Muhlen, Jacob qualified for the final Group in Round 11 going through to the finals by finishing first and then twice in third position in the first three rounds of the tournament. Overall, Jacob finished sixth out of 21 participants.
On the second day of the competition Jacob unfortunately “could not handle the pace of the previous day” and in the 12th round he finished third in the Final Group B.
Jacob had the opportunity to participate in the competition with the help and constant support of his parents, who also accompanied him to Austria.
They gave their thanks to the Malta Cycling Federation, as well as Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, to coach Corrado Toso and the 48 erre BMX team for all their support.
“Undoubtedly this was a very useful international experience and will continue to help Zerafa to improve his future performances.”
