Update – A 55-year-old British woman was seriously injured during an assault in the early hours of Sunday in Xaghra.
An updated statement from the Police on Sunday evening has said that following “further investigations by the Gozo Police, a 29-year-old foreign man has been detained and is helping them with the ongoing investigations.”
The woman was walking with a 58-year old man, also British, in Bullara Street, at around 4am, when they were allegedly attacked by a person using a rock. “The aggressor fled the scene with the victims’ jewellery.”
Police said that they were both taken to the Gozo General Hospital, where the woman was found to have serious injuries, while the man sustained slight injuries.
Police investigations are ongoing and a Magisterial Inquiry is underway.

I bet it was some of those people fleeing famine and war. When will politicians begin to protect us? My God, this is Xaghra. I’ve lived here for years and moved here from London to escape this savagery.
Gozo is going down the drain sooner that any one thought possible thanks to the drug infestation and low lives . Same thing happened to Italy but we didn’t see it coming here.
Wrong, he was a Spaniard and got 5 years today!
My comment was based on information in the Times of Gozo yesterday but today Gozo.News say he was Colombian, if so I stand corrected although still not one of the ones referred to.
