More than 9,000 students will benefit from Heritage Malta and the Ministry for Education and Employment’s new Educational Programme.
Launched on Wednesday at MUZA, the programme covers the entire 2019-2020 scholastic year, and will include a variety of thematic activities throughout the year.
Frank Fabri, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education and Employment stated, “following this summer’s successful programme, creating a new educational programme for the scholastic year was a natural continuation of our educational goals.”
All thematic activities are in line with the national school curriculum, as well as the recently revised Learning Outcome Frameworks, he said.
The Educational Programme will cover 25 different thematic activities, and cater for students ranging from kindergarten to post-secondary level.
Through the programme, students will tackle not only history, but also maths, Maltese, physical activity and drama.
“We hope that this multidisciplinary approach will show students – and parents – that museums are inclusive, accessible to everyone, and so much more than just historical sites,” emphasised Mario Cutajar, Heritage Malta’s Executive Director.
Activities offered will include mathematics in the Roman catacombs, Maltese language through history, and circuit training in Fort St Angelo.
These initiatives are devised in close collaboration with Education Officers of the various subjects, most of whom attended the launch
It was explained that various Heritage Malta curators will also deliver outreach programmes in schools, together with didactic resources distributed in every classroom.
Schoolchildren visiting certain museums and sites in an organised school visit will also be given a specific interactive workbook to be compiled on site.
The Educational Programme throughout the scholastic year follows the successful summer programme organised by Heritage Malta between July and September, which will be repeated again next year.
More information regarding these activities can be obtained by visiting the Agency’s website dedicated to Education by clicking here or contacting Heritage Malta’s Education and Outreach Department on education@heritagemalta.org
Schools can book thematic activities and school visits through the ‘Book your Visit’ page on the Education section of the website.
